Girls on a Black Chair Series
Ted
Meyer started shooting figurative photos after a double hip
replacement, when he was physically unable to paint. Through the camera,
he continues to obsession with the human body confined in a space. He
taught himself traditional darkroom techniques, but now works
exclusively digitally.
Lighting is critical for the artist; he
controls every aspect of the light and color, and prefers to work in a
studio setting. Photography is always a collaboration with the model,
who serves both as inspiration and formal material to pose, mold, and
sculpt.
In the Black Chair series models are instructed to
interact with a large high back chair. Ted feels this mirrors his
painting style that often depicts figures confined to a limited area. Download the Black Chair fact sheet here.
